I am a huge AudioShield and Soundboxing fan but it's so satisfying playing to real beatmaps and all the original content is great. I am well aware that all of these suggestion are just fluff on top and most like won't be top priority anytime soon if at all , but I still wanted to mention them. Just and it should work.

I love it and can't wait to read what you think about it. What we're doing with those in Holodance is have random locations. One related thing I'm also planning that may land a little later is a way to see which of your beatmaps already have global highscores or highscores from your friends. Knowing what does what has made my experience much better.

I'm doing the build right now and will upload right after that. This is the biggest release we've had so far well, it also took longer than any other release before, mostly due to Gamescom but also because there's a lot coming in this release. Writing the release notes alone will take me a little while. I hope all goes well because I have to leave in 45 minutes and really want to push this online before so you can give it a try... I'm very excited about this... I love it and can't wait to read what you think about it. There will also be a new video showing something probably no one expected in Holodance Episode 1 ;- It's fantastic. You've basically added infinite content and a real community feel to the game, thanks! The harder difficulties are comepletely insane but still a blast, even when I end up collapsed on the floor halfway through. I have it on a seperate hard drive and had to simulate the drive path using my precious SSD space. The sliders are a little wonky still, some of them jump around frantically rather than following a predictable path. Certainly not game-breaking, though. As an Osu player it was quite intuitive what to do, but new players might be overwhelmed especially with spinners and sliders. A tutorial for the Osu play not necessarily interactive, even just a splash screen they can bring up might be helpful as a long-term plan. Thanks for the great update. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here. Yeah, the click to locate osu! The Sliders are a bit more of a challenge but I hope to nail those by the end of the coming week. I did some experiments with Tilt Brush and then I knew what I had to do ;-. Given that Sliders are very similar to our floating spines, that part should be covered. I might put those into the Holodance core, too, because I really fell in love with them ;- Good idea to hava at least a short description of each mechanic available in the game! I didn't get any jumpy elements yet, but some songs I loaded up had weirdly long periods with no notes at all, and one or two seemed to just have no notes at all for the second half of a track. I haven't played osu! But yeah, had some good fun, and look forward to see where this goes. I had seen something like this, too, and originally thought those were sections with Spinners that was the mechanic I implemented last, so I played a few times without any spinners. But it still happens even with Spinners working. So I need to do a side-by-side comparison directly with osu! For a complete osu! What's definitely necessary, however, is something that makes beatmaps like that not feel broken... I had a weird issue where the first time i tried it out it was just white orbs without any variance in height. At first I thought that this is all it was and was pretty disappointed but then I fired it up again and the orbs were colored and had a proper beatmap and variance. I think the UI for choosing a beatmap could use a little work, it's very confusing and sometimes a song won't load up. Overall, this is probably my new favorite music game and I hope the bugs are worked out. Thank you for the feedback! White orbs with no variance in height is what you get with Mania-style beatmaps. Mania and Taiku beatmaps don't define colors or at least not in a way we're currently processing , so currently we're using white. This probably should change: One idea is to use colors based on themes which will be designed to work well with the environment. I considered adding a random height to make it more interesting - but most Mania beatmaps I have played so far are already super-intense with each orb at the same height, so we'll probably keep that. Taiku beatmaps don't offer any location. In the original game, all orbs arrive in one single line. What we're doing with those in Holodance is have random locations. This does make Taiku beatmaps fairly difficult because you cannot really learn the locations - but having this together with all the other supported maps seems to be nice extra play style. In the original osu! In that mode, I'll probably increase the size of the incoming area a little because you have a larger range. This should give you some very fun VR gameplay in addition to what we currently have. You can find all the details about the different osu! One related thing I'm also planning that may land a little later is a way to see which of your beatmaps already have global highscores or highscores from your friends. Another thing I hope I'll soon have is a recommendation system. This will a later down the road because we need to have our own server in place for that but servers are something we need anyways for our own beatmap editor to be useful ;-. Songs not loading up sounds like a bug. In the current implementation, only MP3-audio files work, and I know at least one beatmap that uses an ogg-file instead. So that's something we should be able to fix fairly soon. I think in this thread, or another one separate from this one, it could be helpful for people to recommend beatmaps that work really well in VR. Downloading a lot of beatmaps for Osu and they are almost impossible in VR though I should check if they are doable with mouse in the game itself! I'm just wondering if anyone has found any the feel really good when in VR. So perhaps choose a few constant properties of each track things like total number of beats, BPM, length in seconds multiply them, then use this number as a psuedo-random seed for the positioning, so that you get the interesting positioning, but also a consistent experience between replays of the same beatmap. That's a good point. One possibility is to still add randomness as an option later on but there's probably really no need for that, so I guess I'll go with what you suggested. Hey Jashan, Thanks for the quick replies and clarification. Knowing what does what has made my experience much better. It seems like the only song that got stuck was the tutorial song that comes with OSU. I can't get enough of Holodance! I am a huge AudioShield and Soundboxing fan but it's so satisfying playing to real beatmaps and all the original content is great. I do think that there needs to be some adjustments to help with very fast beatmaps, it seems physically impossible to do some of them so maybe there's a way to decrease the surface area if the bpm reaches a threshold. I'm not quite sure what would make what seems like impossible OSU beatmaps more playable. Also, I feel like no one knows about the OSU update. I found out it was updated buried in a reddit thread. Hope you guys get more exposure! Originally posted by :I think in this thread, or another one separate from this one, it could be helpful for people to recommend beatmaps that work really well in VR. I'm just wondering if anyone has found any the feel really good when in VR. I've found any of the OSU beatmaps on Hard or Insane difficulty are very good for VR! At first I thought they were impossible or too hard but you need to position yourself well so your hands stretch out to the grid. I still find myself tapping or shaking the controller to the notes out of habit though : Oh, very good point about the osu! I'll also make the Steam Store page a little more explicit as much as I love the dragons, they do scare people away it seems, so we'll put them a little less on the surface so people only find out about them when they're already hooked to the game ;-. And hopefully by the end of this week I'll have it polished enough to feel confident to also do a bigger announcement that I'll also send to some press people. But really, I feel word of mouth is most powerful ;- Awesome to hear your update on beatmap difficulty. As I'm keeping an accumulated score for each user, I could use that kind of like XP in typical RPGs. The song is playing in the menu I am bad with titles and names most of the time so it would help to hear a song preview during selection and I jump alot around with what kind of music I want to listen to. Song Previews would help to decide on the fly. Next Up Prev etc. Those are the things I'd like to see added in the future. I am well aware that all of these suggestion are just fluff on top and most like won't be top priority anytime soon if at all , but I still wanted to mention them. The reason I can't promise the song preview, yet, is because at the moment, we need to decode the full MP3 before we can play it, which may cause hiccups which could be very annoying when you do it a lot. This doesn't mean we won't do it, of course, it's just something I have to implement and test before I can say it works well for sure. So probably we will have that. With the scrolling, I can also see that the current paging isn't quite perfect, and I believe using the touchpad for scrolling is probably the better approach. So most likely we'll replace the current paging approach with touchpad Vive or joystick Touch scrolling where available for PlayStation VR, if we even can implement osu!

Songs not loading up sounds like a bug. Read comments and see video recommendations from around the web. I've found any of the OSU beatmaps on Hard or Insane difficulty are very good for VR. It has three subcategories, Jump, Flow and Precision.
